Schengen 90/180 day calculator
Free Schengen short-stay calculator: count your days inside Schengen in any rolling 180-day window, in the exact way border officers (and the EES) count them.
Add every trip you have taken (or plan to take) inside the Schengen Area, then pick the date you want to check. The calculator looks back over the previous 180 days exactly the way the EU Entry/Exit System now does — automatic, no stamps involved.
Two common misunderstandings worth clearing up. First, there is no “reset”: leaving for a month does not give you a fresh 90 days, it just stops the clock adding new ones while you are away. Second, the limit is not per year — it is per rolling 180-day window, which is why a spring trip back home does not “erase” summer days you spent in Europe the season before.
If this calculator tells you a date is over the limit, the safe move for most people is an on-time departure rather than a rushed extension: most member states do not offer a same-day extension at the border. For the current rules around the EES and the upcoming ETIAS, see The Schengen 90/180 rule, explained.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Schengen 90/180 rule work?
You may stay up to 90 days inside the Schengen Area in any rolling 180-day period. The window rolls backwards from each day, so leaving for a short trip does not reset the count — days only stop counting once they are more than 180 days old.
Do arrival and departure days count?
Yes, both count as full days of the 90-day allowance. The calculator above counts them the same way, so a trip arriving on the 1st and leaving on the 3rd uses 3 days.
Does transit through a Schengen airport count?
Only if you pass through border control — for example connecting to a flight within the Schengen Area. Airside transit to a non-Schengen destination does not normally start the clock.
What happens if I exceed 90 days?
An overstay is now recorded automatically in the EU Entry/Exit System, may trigger a fine, and can lead to an entry ban. Even a small overstay can affect future visa applications worldwide.
